Lazúli an

Pattern inspired by Athenian art on a vase produced by Sophilos created in the 6th century BC. This early volute-krater form is decorated with two wild boars and I was enchanted by the somewhat bucolic and timeless way in which they were drawn. I decided to immortalize them in the form of a pattern but in a color that could have amore valuable and mysterious touch. There is a long list of things we can thank the ancient Egyptians for inventing, and one of them is the color blue. Considered the first synthetically produced colored pigment, Egyptian blue was created around 2,200 BC made from ground limestone mixed with sand and a copper-containing mineral such as azurite, the blue component of lapis lazuli, a rock highly valued by the pharaohs, as may be seen by its prominent use in many of the treasures recovered from pharaonic tombs, and it was exactly this that motivated the choice of the final color. Production and use of the natural variety has almost ceased, although several companies still produce it and some are still attracted by its brilliance and romantic history.
